What to Expect

We would love for you to join us at FBC White Plains for worship and Sunday School. Curious about what to expect? We address some common questions here:

What should I wear?

At FBCWP, we have members who dress in anything from traditional to casual attire. We invite everyone to join us just as you are!

Please feel free to park in the lots surrounding the church or the high school parking lots. We have a golf cart to help transport anyone in need of assistance. Additionally, there are handicap spaces around the sanctuary entrance and covered side entrance.

Walking In

When you walk into the building, the best place to go is the Welcome Center. The Welcome Center is located just inside the front door. Greeters will be there ready to get to know you and take you to the proper Sunday School class or help you enter the Sanctuary.

Sunday School

Sunday School is an extremely important aspect of First Baptist Church of White Plains. It’s here that you will find community and friends that will help you grow in your relationship with Jesus. A teacher will lead your class through a lesson, and then will help you to apply the Bible to your life.

We love music, all kinds of music. From hymns to new releases, we sing a number of different types of songs in order to worship. Our worship team does a fantastic job of playing beautiful music that is rich with truth.

Our pastor, Eric Snider, leads us through expository preaching. What this means is that he allows the biblical text to determine the main idea and structure of his sermons. We believe that every word in the Bible is true and from God. Therefore, we seek to explain the meaning of the Bible in its original context and then apply that meaning to our lives today. Expect biblical, relevant, and applicable preaching at the First Baptist Church of White Plains.

Our Core Values and Beliefs

We believe the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God. It is the supreme authority by which we live our lives. Therefore, we believe the Bible teaches the following truths:

  • Every person is born a sinner in need of a Savior.
  • The Trinity is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
  • Jesus came to the earth through means of the virgin birth. He was both 100% God and man.
  • He lived a perfect and sinless life.
  • He died for our sins on Calvary and was buried and rose again three days later. The Bible calls it the gospel.
  • Whosever believes the gospel and repents of their sin will be saved. Being saved means that God forgives you of your sin, the Holy Spirit lives within each believer, and when we die we go to heaven.

Meet the Staff

Eric Snider

I have been blessed to serve as pastor of FBC White Plains since 1994. I came to Christ in 1982 as a twelve year old boy. My wife, Kim, and I have been married since 1992. We have one daughter Anna, and her husband Kolby. I love the smoked chicken sandwich at Jim-n-Nicks. I am an avid hunter as well. One of my favorite Bible verses is Hebrews 6:10 “For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed towards his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.” What I love about the church is its willingness to serve and help without worrying about who gets the credit. Our goal is pointing others to our Savior and not ourselves.

Philip Smith

I come from a long line of preachers, deacons, and singers, and have been raised to come to church and serve, not to be served. I started singing with my sister and a friend in a nursing home ministry when I was about ten. I was saved and baptized when I was twelve years old, and started preaching at nineteen. I’ve sang in a few trios and quartets over the years but I’ve always had a special love for the church, so I’ve ended up right here in the church where I was saved and baptized many years ago. I became the Minister of Music and Choir Director at FBC White Plains in 1997 where I have served now for twenty-five years – nineteen of those years as a volunteer, until I came onboard as a full time staff member in 2016. I have been accompanied by my wife Lora and two sons – Jacob and Adam. All of which are musicians in the praise band. Lora plays piano and sings in the choir, Jacob plays drums and is part of our audio/video production team, and Adam plays multiple instruments while being our band and worship leader. Adam also handles the worship at our jail ministry worship on Sunday mornings. I love that our church is Christ minded, Christ honoring, and Christ obeying. We all care about each other and we want to take our community to Heaven with us. My favorite hobbies are hunting, fishing, boating, singing, and doing mission projects. I love eating steak, chicken, seafood, and carbs (all of them!). My favorite Bible verse is found in the book of Psalms 28:7 “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.”

Ruthie Snider

My husband, Vernon, and I have been saved since 1989. We have been married since 1967. We have three children: Donna, Tammy, and Rodney, along with six grandchildren and one great granddaughter. I began working at FBC White Plains in 2005. I love my church and have such love for all of our church family; so many, I have known most of my life. I have been at FBC White Plains since I was about ten years of age. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Brown were my Sunday School and Training Union teachers for many years. The love felt here at FBC White Plains is as strong now as it was fifty years ago. That speaks volumes for our church being what it is today. I love to do crafts such as sewing and crocheting and my favorite food is chicken cooked in any way. My favorite Bible verses are: John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life; and Psalms 100:3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Kelly Boyd

I am Kelly Boyd, the Children’s ministry director at The First Baptist Church of White Plains. I recently joined the staff in November 2021. I have been a member of the church since 2019. I gave my life to the Lord November 1st, 2009. I am married to CJ Boyd and we have two beautiful daughters, Karley and Kolby. My favorite bible verse is Galatians 6:9 “Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

I am passionate about teaching children about Jesus and watching them grow in their faith!

Nick Arnold

I have been the student minister at First Baptist Church of White Plains since December 2019, and I am thankful to be a part of such a great church family. I surrendered my life to Christ when I was 14 years old, and I was called to serve in the ministry when I was 18. My wife, Amanda, and I have been married since 2005. We have two children: a daughter named Leighton and a son named Colton. My favorite Bible verse is John 15:13 “greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” In my spare time, I love sports, hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. What I love most about my church is how they show their love for others so that Christ is revealed.

Adam Smith

I’ve attended church at First Baptist Church of White Plains my entire life, and I even received Jesus Christ as my personal Savior here at the age of eight. My roles have included “Minister’s Kid,” band member, singer, and now the ones you see listed above. I spent a few years at Bethel University, where I played bass guitar with a traveling gospel choir, and I was exposed to many different types of worship services. I spent the next few years completing my doctorate at Life University and becoming a chiropractor. I am now practicing in the Anniston/Jacksonville/Oxford area, and I plan to for the foreseeable future. In my rare free time, I do enjoy working out and fishing, but most of it is usually spent with my true passion: music. I am extremely blessed to be able to use what I love to worship my God! I am looking forward to experiencing what God will do next in our Christ-exalting, people-loving, Kingdom-minded church!  “While I live will I praise the Lord: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.” -Psalms 146:2
